In the fall of 2016, the Texas Justice Court Judges Association (JCJA) formed an honorary society for Texas justices of the peace who desire advanced education and who should be recognized for that endeavor.

This society is known as the College of Justice Court Judges and will recognize each year those justice court judges who receive at least (10) hours of accredited education above their mandatory certification requirements. In 2017, the College started inviting court clerks who have attained at least ten (10) hours of education by attending seminars sponsored by the JCJA.

These judges and clerks are among the best educated and knowledgeable justices of the peace and court clerks in the state and will be awarded diplomas suitable for framing in acknowledgment of their endeavors.

Special recognition as a “Distinguished Member” is given to those member judges who acquire thirty (30) hours or more above their mandatory requirements.

Those judges who acquire at least sixty (60) hours above their mandatory requirements are our “Scholar Members” and receive a one-year complimentary membership for a judge or court clerk of their choice, into the Texas Justice Court Judges Association.

The mission of the College is to:

  • Recognize and encourage justice court judges and court clerk who desire to maintain and enhance their judicial skills and the quality of service to their constituents by significant voluntary participation in judicial education.

  • Sponsor and assist in educational activities of significant merit, relevance and applicability to justice court judges and court clerks.

  • Promote the educational opportunities of the College among justice court judges and court clerks.

  • Recognize and encourage outstanding service by justice court judges and court clerks.
